Factory working friends visit the ruins of the spaces where they worked for years. At the same time, they tell their individual memories related to the factory and the workers’ community of which they were part. As they remember other times, using images and archival objects, workers relive the past in an experience that combines material heritage with immaterial heritage, and explores the complexity of the materiality of memory. Pedro Neves is a regular presence at Curtas, where he already presented “Cold Water” (2011), “Hospedaria” (2014) and coordinated the realisation of the project “Náufragos” (2018), a production of Curtas developed by a group of secondary school students. “The Factory” is a work that fits the social and human sensibilities that mark the viewpoint of Pedro Neves, someone who is very aware of the importance of cinema as an agent of social memory.
