Animation cinema has lately been interested in the hybrid concept of animated documentary, of which this “On est pas près d’être des super héros” can be considered an example. A series of testimonies gathered from interviews with children is the basis for the movie, which builds its approach to childhood and its reflection on the transition to adulthood from these conversations. In its poetic discourse and its philosophical dimension, the short offers different layers of interpretation that make it advisable for all ages. The visual language adopts the tone of the interviews, situated in a fine line between reality and imagination, in sync with the stripped-down and incisive graphic register that is the trademark of belgian filmmaker Lia Bertels, making her debut at Curtas Vila do Conde’s competition.
