The symbology, perception, and geography of colors, filmed with an Aaton S16mm camera, in museum paintings, tribal tattoos, in the natural landscape, or in recreational activity environments and night bars where people dance, are the jumping point for a reflection on cultural identity, and the mutual appropriation process between natives and the white European wanderers and settlers who have travelled the territory over the centuries. From this tension, and in a sort of post-colonial ethnographic experience, “Color-blind” explores colors, textures, and dialects of territories in the Marquesas Islands, in French Polynesia, where the body of post-impressionist painter Paul Gauguin has been laid to rest; as well as in Brittany, in northwestern France. Over the years, the work of US artist Ben Russell has been shown in Curtas, having been awarded in 2003 (“The Russel Tribunal”). He has also been a member of the festival’s jury (2015) and has had an exhibition at Solar – Cinematic Art Gallery (“Ruins/Rites/Runes”, 2015, coauthored with British artist Ben Rivers). (PC)
