Using images shot during an artistic residence in Canada, Sandro Aguilar presents, in “Armour”, an experience-movie that seeks to explore the mightiness of the landscape and of how it speaks to us about the world. There are clear connections to his previous film: here we again have a suspended, almost anonymous, time in which city and sea landscapes are presented in their almost naïve evidence. However, by inserting small captions on the screen, Aguilar adds a narrative control, through minimal details that refer to what is not in the frame. A game that also comes from his previous wanderings, but which, in this film, takes on an attractive structuralist approach, not least because it is often ironic and fun. Sandro Aguilar is one of Curtas Vila do Conde’s most prominent filmmakers, having presented almost all of his films, and won several awards, at the festival over the past two decades. (DR)
