Born from the partnership between Batida (Pedro Coquenão) and Ikonoklasta (angolan media activist Luaty Beirão), “Vai Vai” is the result of one month of Local Artistic Accommodation at Lisbon’s Casa Independente, and follows on its creators’ “bass heavy afrobeat” musical signature. The music video was directed by Pedro Coquenão himself, also responsible for the art direction, along with Manuel Lino, who also edited it. Together, they created a provocative piece that explores, with sarcasm and a strong political message, several icons of angolan urban culture, such as the savanna landscape, the “white noise” of VHS pirated movies with chinese subtitles, or the “candongueiros”, the famous blue mix of van and taxi that travels through Luanda.
