Joining this competition for the fourth time, João Pombeiro continues to impress with the creativity, complexity and imagination of his visual compositions, which make use of super detailed collages of different elements. After a sort of prologue, in which a sample of a voice describes an unidentified space, yet evocative of US suburbia, illustrated with cutouts (serving as visual samples) of a diverse imagery associated with this universe, we are taken on an immersive journey through a singular imaginary scored by Surma’s music. The result creates a narrative of its own about these images, in which the transitions between the different pictures-settings, resembling portals towards new possibilities, especially stand out. (JA)
