In a world where an alternative to dating sim games is possible, we meet Tommy, a typical “weeb”, a Japanese culture aficionado. Tommy acquires Maiko, a “yandere” who lives in a glass dome, and whose only purpose is to love him and not let anything come between them. After three years of relationship, something changes: Tommy comes back from a camping trip in love with Sophie, leading Maiko to realize she is about to lose him. In an interesting mix of virtual reality and live-action, French filmmaker William Laboury’s short film explores anime culture, in an attempt to rethink one of the genre’s most popular archetypes: the “yandere”.
