L'acusat (The accused, a case of the sur)" is an installation in two double projections: portrait of a south (around El Rocío) from four cardinal points: the church, the bar, the hunt and the Guardia Civil. In 2017, Isaki Lacuesta followed a case of double homicide in El Rocío (Huelva). El Rocío is an unusual space, with western airs next to the natural park of Doñana, where the whole existence revolves around the Virgin: as a great center of Marian pilgrimage, the village welcomes close to one million people. A Catholic Mecca. During the investigation process, it was discovered that the life of the only defendant in the case and El Rocío shared the same four cardinal points: the church, the hunt, the bar and the Guardia Civil. Four walls of a world on horseback (in El Rocío, everything is done "on horseback") between the current imaginary of a Lorchian Spain and the resistance to modernity. From there, we observed a novel synthesis of workers and hunters of the middle and lower class, voters in the far right. After spending more than three years in prison, awaiting trial, the defendant was found not guilty. Therefore, once released, the accused is out of the field in this installation, surrounded (like the spectator himself) by the four screens that portray as four institutions from a south, which is not extemporaneous, but rather the most unpredictable and realistic image of our 21st century.
