An essay film made from several different kinds of archival material, from live and real-time footage to slightly fictional reenactments used as propaganda, ignites a public debate on the relatively recent history of the Israel state’s origins. The film excerpts in question were selected from the archives of Lehi, a somewhat obscure Zionist paramilitary organization that operated in Palestine during the British mandate, more precisely, between 1940 and 1948, and whose main purposes included expelling the British, allowing for the creation of a Jewish state. “Belated Measures” reveals details on the investigation carried out by Nir Eyron, focusing particularly on his reflections and speculative considerations. A possible approach to a difficult issue, especially nowadays, in the aftermath of recent military actions carried out by the Israeli army, with the argument of ending the so-called Palestinian terrorist activity. After all, everything started with Lehi, “a criminal terrorist group”, as considered by the United Nations Security Council. (MM)
