German filmmaker Ute Aurand’s editing is already a well-known signature in the field of experimental cinema. Her diary way of approaching reality and its surroundings emerges from an active camera, sensitively directed by Aurand’s hand, as well as from an editing perfectly balanced between its vitality and its empathy. With the typical expressive gestures of the Bolex camera, Aurand construes successive declarations of love. “Glimpses from a visit to Orkney in Summer 1995” is born from a plea made by the “Margaret Tait 100” project that, on the occasion of Tait’s centennial, invites Aurand to celebrate the work of her filmmaker friend. Aurand, then, travels to the summer of 1995, when she visited Margaret Tait in Orkney, and the moment is portrayed among flowers, animals, landscape, and tea, punctuated by abstract color stripes, in a permanent wander between the intimate and the abstract. This is Ute Aurand’s debut at Curtas Vila do Conde. (RiM)
