Produced during his studies at Le Fresnoy, an important French film school and artistic research lab, “A Guest + A Host = A Ghost” is based on an aphorism created by Marcel Duchamp in 1953 that Jorge Jácome develops with the use of human hands and of his incalculable capacity for expression and sensory perception. Throughout a series of frames, with a camera that moves hesitantly (like a ghost?), Jácome applies distortions as well as sound and visual manipulations that appeal to subjectivity and resignification through the senses. Living up to the Duchampian proposition, Jácome invites us (“guest”) to find in his film (“host”) the necessary elements to experience something in the spectrum of the immaterial. (PC)
