A succession of still images of a cloudy sky and of the sea on a rocky beach. To the sound of waves crashing against the rocks, a girl’s voice recalls summer episodes of her childhood, and the few memories of her grandparents on Moledo beach, where the river Minho meets the Atlantic Ocean. These are mostly sensory memories from the past – visual (the hydrangeas, the cats) and sound (the train) – which have left a longing for the moments of family joy, before a separation. Francisca Alarcão creates a sensitive narrative about absence, loneliness, and the impossibility of returning to a lost time. (PC)
