Eva puts her ambitions and career aside to give birth to Kevin. The relationship between mother and son is difficult from the very first years. Kevin's behavior becomes increasingly problematic as he grows up, culminating in a shocking moment. Eva grapples with her own feelings of grief and responsibility. Did she ever love her son? In this third feature film, Lynne Ramsay continues to address some of the previous themes, such as death, trauma and the relationship with grief, all wrapped up in a caustic look at the epidemic of violence in the United States. The mother, brilliantly played by Tilda Swinton, seems close to the anesthetized and mourning state of the main character in “Morvern Callar”, but here the representation of reality is much more fragmented, with impressionistic tones that tinge the representation of the past, and that end up infecting the recreation of the present with tortuous memories.
