Centered around his household and his core community, Hernâni dos Santos listens to the life stories of people with a common denominator: they were evicted from the houses where they were born and raised due to the feverish real estate speculation that, just as in other cities, has invaded Porto’s central area over the last years. With a watchful, sensitive, and sincere eye, “When Men Go Up, They Must Come Down” is not a documentary about the houses and premises that have been foreclosed, but rather about these lives that have been interrupted and dispossessed.
